SMK Raja Permaisuri Bainun was initially known as Sekolah Manjoi, opened on 10 September 1984. The school was founded by Dato 'Hj. Hanafiah Mohd Ghazali, Director of the Perak Education Department at the time. This school building is a former Maktab Perguruan Ipoh Baru. It was made into a Sekolah Rancangan Khas Berasrama Penuh by the Education Department of Perak. The purpose is to give proper education to children of low-income family in rural areas that have excelled in the Primary School Assessment Test(UPSR), but not selected to further study at selected boarding school.
The first intake of 96 students have been made with a minimum eligibility 3A +2 B in Standard Five Assessment Tests with 7 teachers. Opening the SMK Raja Permaisuri Bainun Proclamation was completed by His Royal Highness the Queen of Perak, Tuanku Bainun Mohd Ali, daughter of DK on July 8, 1987.
At this time, the number of students increased to 542 people, 62 teachers and 18 support staff. The number of classes has increased from 4 classes in 1984 to 27 classes in 2012. Form 6 began in 1998 with 16 students. The subjects offered are Computing, Mathematics S, Business Management, General Studies and MUET.
Since its opening, the school was able to maintain 100% passing the examination performance of SRP / PMR and SPM. The school is also named as Smart School in 1989 and in 1997 won the Second Prize of Anugerah Sekolah Harapan Negara category City. In 1998, the school has become a Champion of Sekolah Harapan Negara category City.
All students are required to take four elective science in 1996. To enhance teaching and learning methods, the MOU RECSAM Bainun was signed on January 12, 1997. The project is known as REBACOS (RESCSAM Bainun Cooperative School). The emphasis is on cooperative learning for Science, Pure Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Modern Mathematics, Additional Mathematics and English. Now CL method has been extended to all subjects in school.
"Living In Fine English" {LIFE} is a niche area of academic focus for the English culture among its citizens. Various activities that lead to expose and encourage students to use English to propel the achievement of excellence and proficiency in English is an ongoing.
This school also focuses on curriculum. Orkestra Muda Bainun (OMB) team was established in September 1996 with 120 students. Until now, this team has made several presentations such as offering to Her Majesty the Queen in the Palace of Perak Tuanku Bainun Iskandariah, presentation at the Banquet Hall of the Royal Perak State, Teachers Day Celebration performance at the national level and participate in the Annual Concert Ministry of Education Malaysia.
Ghazal Sri Bainun team is one of the musical ensemble in the school was able to participate in international student arts festival in Izmir, Turkey in April 2011. In addition, the team of Ghazal Sri Bainun also frequently invited to perform at functions organized by government and private agencies.
Aspects of Bina Insan Gemilang (BIG) is a glory hone niche areas of leadership and self-esteem of students to produce "Towering Personalities". Camp activities such as motivation, leadership courses, community services, education and biodiversity research and benchmarking visits conducted in an effort to motivate Education Transformation Programme.
SMKRPB also organized Bainun Smart Partnership International Week 2011 at the very first time. Program will be held as an annual event serves as a platform for students to interact, communicate, exchange ideas and learn to recognize people from different socio-cultural. BISPW gathers students from outside schools and in the country as well as the platform for cultural exchange to build a group of students a competitive and globally competitive.
In an effort to improve school performance PTA also played a role by providing the various contributions in terms of material and moral support. In 1998, the PTA has contributed 40 computers for the Computer Literacy Program and the Teaching and Learning perspective. A van was donated for the benefit of students.
A bus has given to the school by His Highness Dr. Raja Nazrin Shah School Appreciation Day 1994. State Education Department has allocated Complex Teachers at this school in 1997. The building was completed and submitted in April 2000.
Achievement of excellence in this school is closely linked with the efforts and leadership of the administrator's earnest and concerned about the goals and vision of the school. During the school's age of 27 years, the school was governed by 13 dedicated and visionary principals to ensure the continued excellence of our schools.
In 2008, SMK Raja Permaisuri Bainun has received four awards for Excellence Cluster Schools of Malaysia, Smart Schools 5 Star, exemplary schools Pilgrims Fund and the MS ISO 9001:2000 Certification.
